Hi, friends! My name is Ange and I blog over at Hairspray and Highheels where I chat about everything from do it yourself beauty, drugstore favorites and fitness. I am super excited to hang out with y’all today! I know that Deb has a teen daughter so we thought it would be fun to have a little Back To School Beauty chat. I tried to find products that are as equally awesome as they are appropriate for the teen girl, I went to an all girls catholic high school and makeup was absolutely not allowed so this is new territory for me. However as a girl I know that we all like a little extra something now and then but staying in the “less is more” school of thought is definitely something you will want to hang on to well into your adult years. Accent your natural beauty. wear makeup because you like it and not because anyone tells you that you need it to look pretty. That’s not the case, you are gorgeous just the way you are so play that up!
When it comes to makeup, a light lip gloss like Wet N Wild ‘Sun Glaze’ is the perfect shade for a day look or even to pop on for the big dance. For eye shadow it does not need to be packed on, a palette full of neutrals will work for every occasion. The darker shades can even be used as a liner to make your eyes pop a bit more, it’s also super cheap and available in all of the drugstores! Concealer is something that I believe a bit more money should be thrown on because we want that to conceal any unruly pimples that may decide to make an appearance, it’s something I wish was allowed during my picture day Junior year. So this gem from Smashbox is my go-to! Mascara wise, I’d stick with black and use something that’s voluminous which will help your eyes to look larger and brighter. You can’t go wrong with this Covergirl Bombshell Duo.
For our nails? We’re keeping it simple and choosing very light shades. Nudes and pastels are going to treat you well and be super classy for school. A bright (bot not too bright) pink will also be a go-to color that you can use for your toes and even rock an accent nail with.
Let’s chat skin care. It’s never too early to start a proper skin care routine, believe me, ask your mothers and they will tell you that they wish they started in school. Always, always clean your face at night and in the morning, never go to bed with makeup on your face and if you suffer from acne, stop touching it! An awesome routine to have during your teens years is super simple cleanser and a moisturizer + an acne spot treatment just in case. Some of my faves are the Clearasil Superfruits Cleanser because it smells amazing and is something I currently use and love. For a spot treater, I’d definitely go with Clean & Clear and to moisturize you can check out YesTo because it too smells ridiculously good!
Hair is something I didn’t really take to much time to play with when I was in school, I think I actually created the messy bun! I’m a super fan, rock it! Though with a messy bun comes tangles so one of my favorite brushes is the tangle teezer which I recommend to anyone who will listen. Less breakage, less pulling and tugging and it’s super gentle on your hair. Braids are definitely in style and will be huge this fall, here’s a simple fishtail braid tutorial if your’re into those and I would suggest spraying some Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe on to the braid so that when you take it out you some beachy waves and another style to wear. My biggest hair tip? Stop washing it. No, not forever just stop washing it as often as you are you’re doing more harm than good. Embrace the dry shampoo trend and skip the daily wash. A dry shampoo like this one from Batiste will give your hair an instant refresh!
I hope you all enjoyed this and will put some of these tips to the test when you go back to school! What products are you using? Sound off in the comments and let us know your faves!
