Thanks to TJ Maxx for sponsoring today’s post. As always, the opinions are my own.
A decade ago, my definition of remarkable would have been different. I was launching a financial services business and meeting some really incredible women that seemed to know how to juggle it all- career, motherhood and life in general. While I’m still in awe of some of these outstanding ladies, my definition of truly remarkable has totally changed as have I. The most remarkable person in the world? My teenage daughter Jaiden Rose.
My child has been battling chronic illness for the past couple of years. Every time we think she’s about to get a break, something new is thrown her way. Yet, she’s a fighter and she seems to find joy every single day; an incredible feat because she never feels well. I find her attitude, determination and strength absolutely remarkable. She was the first person that I thought of when I watched this video and honestly, if you’re a mom, you want to watch. I promise.
I have to admit that watching this really put a lot into perspective for me. As a mother, I don’t really feel like I do anything extraordinary every day. I don’t feel remarkable. But, as I watched the video and saw these women celebrated by their children, I had a moment of clarity. I must be remarkable. I’m raising someone absolutely remarkable and that doesn’t happen by accident.
It’s so easy for us as mothers to beat ourselves up. To feel guilty about the fact that we can’t do it all but honestly, we’re all accomplishing amazing things every single day. It’s not easy juggling a career, motherhood and everything else that we enjoy. It’s hard work. That in itself makes all of us remarkable.
As for me, I try to be humble but for a moment I’ll be truthful. I am remarkable. I know so because out of the blue this week, in the middle of a conversation about nothing big, my teenager stopped and said, “Mama, I love you.” She looked like a balloon about ready to burst as she declared her adoration. It made my heart melt and for a moment, I was the most remarkable woman in the room.

I definitely know a lot of remarkable women, especially mothers, who are killing it out there in the world and still managing to raise awesome, respectful children. It sounds like you’re doing a great job yourself! 🙂
