Rosie’s first homecoming was last weekend and we had so much fun prepping for the day. Since money’s a little tight at the CB home, I didn’t want to buy a $200 off the rack, have to alter it and not have it be special. Here’s the good news, I’ve raised a smart shopper. Rosie ordered a simple dress from a company in Australia for under $40 and we decided to rhinestone it because it was so plain. That way, it would have lots of sparkle with AB Crystals and it would be one of a kind. There’s a big benefit to being a dance mom. I can stone in my sleep. Here’s the back of the dress. We think it turned out gorgeous.
Next, we had to find the perfect shoes. We found royal blue suede pumps but they weren’t fancy enough for Rosie. So, we enlisted the help of the K-Man on a Pinterest project (thank God it wasn’t a fail), to help jazz them up. Once he rubbed the bottoms with rubbing alcohol, it only took half a bottle of nail polish (and his steady hands) to get the bottoms pink. So cute.
Next, we bought a cheap purse at Charming Charlie’s. To match, we blinged it with leftover 16’s from the scatter on the dress. Another inexpensive way to make the outfit her own. Some 16’s also wound up on the seam on the back of her shoes but I didn’t get a good picture. Mommy fail.
So was our homecoming on a budget a success? Absolutely. I think we paid under $200 for everything and the outfit was stunning. Yes, we splurged on hair and a manicure but it was worth it. She looked gorgeous and her date is not too shabby either. Such a cute couple and they had a great time.
