I am a big wine lover, but every once in a while, you have to have a signature holiday drink. With Valentine’s Day around the corner, the K-Man and I thought a Sweetheart Martini would be perfect. When my hubby and I first started dating, he was a bartender and he’s been running restaurants ever since, so he’s the perfect guy to help me come up with a cocktail that tastes great and is easy to make. It was fun to collaborate on this project (and it was also fun to drink the results in the middle of the day like a guilty pleasure).
I love flavored vodka. It was my drink of choice before I became all grown up and sophisticated (I am laughing as I type this). I also like cherry limeades (if you live in Kansas City, Topsy’s Popcorn has the best one bar none). So we set out to merge the two flavors into a perfect martini.
You’ll want to try this Sweetheart Martini!
We used lemonade so it wasn’t too tart, but you can also use limeade if you like. The grenadine? Just for color. If you don’t have any around the house, you can use cherry juice. And, any vodka will do, I just grabbed a brand I knew that wasn’t too pricey as we’re on a budget. I used regular sprinkles for this drink but you can buy fine sugar sprinkles at any cake decorating store. The result? A deliciously fruity combination that is perfect for Valentine’s Day or any other day for that matter. I think it’s a drink that’s perfect year-round but especially on warm summer days. Honestly, you could mix up a pitcher and have a party.
- 1 1/2 ounces cherry vodka
- 1/2 ounce Triple Sec
- 2 ounces lemonade or limeade
- Splash of grenadine
- 1 squeeze of fresh lime wedge
- Combine all ingredients in a shaker
- Add ice cubes
- Shake
- Sugar rim glass
- Pour and serve
Handy tip: When you rim your glass, dip the edge into some grenadine before the sugar. It will make the edge sticky so the sugar will adhere.

Umm, yum! I’m not a huge drinker (Like I rarely drink anything) but this sounds like it’d be something I’d drink.
