Disclosure: I was not compensated for this post. My family did receive an HVAC system, thermostat, insulation, sheet rock and labor from DMC Service. As always, the opinions are my own.
We were thrilled to find out in December that we won DMC Service’s Diamond Day of Service. All of their employees nominated families that could use a little help this winter. Their stories were told without names and then the entire team voted for the winner. The entire team not only donated their time to help our family, we got a brand new HVAC unit. Such a blessing.
If you don’t know our story, two years ago our daughter spit up a blob of blood in a parking lot. This started us on a 22 month search for a diagnosis that was costly both financially and emotionally. My husband lost his job the same month and since I’m the main caregiver, I’ve been unable to go back to work full-time. Still, we’ve all stayed positive, worked hard and made sure that our daughter comes first.
When Karen called me to tell me we won, I was overjoyed. Our HVAC unit was 18 years old and the air conditioner shot craps every summer the past few years. I actually sobbed when I told her that I don’t know how we’d be able to afford a new one if it went out. Now I wouldn’t have to worry about it.
Our other issue? My hubby had started on our basement and then had to stop working on it when he took a contracting position with a friend. Almost everything from the storage was shoved into my office and bathroom (which were already finished). Not only did it look like an episode of hoarders, it made me claustrophobic. Karen said they’d hang the sheet rock for us.
One of the cool things about DMC Service is it’s a 100% woman-owned business that really focuses on phenomenal customer service and technical skill. How many women do you know that will roll their sleeves up and work with their team?
I also have to add that she’s a really cool boss because she took them all to Twin Peaks for lunch the first day. Why do I say first day? This project took a few days and all these guys did it with smiles on their faces.
So, I can’t get a pic of the furnace because it’s really dark back there but just know it’s awesome. Since we all have allergies, it has a UV light in it to kill mold and bacteria and give us higher quality, healthier air. It also has an attached humidifier. Since we’ve always had problems with air flow in our home, they took the time to measure all the air coming out of the vents to see if they could fix that problem (sadly, the answer is no. Our builder screwed up). And, they took the time to educate me about which duct went where to teach us how to adjust for summer. I was very impressed with their customer service. We also got a new thermostat.
This bad boy, the Ecobee , is the brain of our HVAC system. It has a sensor in our living room so it knows when we’re downstairs to adjust the air. We can set it from the thermostat, our computer or phones (which isn’t a good thing for my hubby since he likes to play with it) and it’s going to save us money. In fact, replacing the HVAC system should save us money because it’s more efficient. I’m actually looking forward to comparing the bills in the upcoming months.
As for the basement? All the sheet rock is done and my hubby will have to tape, mud and sand it and we’ll be closer to a finished basement. Here are the after pics.
After working with DMC Service, I can honestly tell you that they definitely give diamond service. All of the guys were polite, professional and knowledgeable. Since their focus is primarily commercial, if you own a business, I’d definitely give them a call and have them service your HVAC.
