I’ve decided I’m an adult. I can no longer hang out in bars and drink green beer on St. Patrick’s Day (and actually, I’ve been over that scene for a while). So, I went on the search for more grown up drinks- some St. Patrick’s Day Cocktails. Yummy treats you can make at home, that taste delicious and celebrate the season and I found some. Can’t wait to share them with you because St. Patrick’s Day is one of my favorite holidays.
I live in Kansas City one of the country’s best kept secrets. We have one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day parades in the country, which is crazy considering we’re not a huge metropolitan area. The entire town pretty much shuts down on St. Patrick’s Day- everyone’s either marching in the parade, clamoring for a spot on the sidewalk for a spot to watch the parade or drinking Guinness in a bar. Usually, the parade on the 17th is the second celebration for everyone because there are parades all over town the Saturday before as well. I think you can say we’re St. Patrick’s Day obsessed.
Why? According to the 2010 census, there are over 250,000 Irish Americans in Kansas City. One out of every two people has Irish blood. So, while people all over the country pretend to be Irish on St. Patrick’s Day, half the people in KC can say that with a little bit of truth. The others? They just want a day off to party and we’re cool with that as well.
I used to love the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and the bar scene afterwards. Now, I just want to stay home, far away from the crowds and drunk people. Yet, I still deserve a cocktail, right? Here are 5 St. Patrick’s Day cocktails for all of the grown ups out there. Cheers!
