Yes, I know it’s Halloween and it’s almost over but I can’t wait until next year to put up our Candy Land Trunk or Treat! We had so much fun last night at our dance studio that we wanted to share. Here’s the good thing, if you have a little, you could use all these ideas for a birthday party. Nothing was hard to implement but here’s the deal- I didn’t have time to shoot tutorial photos because we had a time crunch, so we’ll just talk about what we used. Cool?
First, we had to buy the game. We’ve parted ways with all our little kid games and couldn’t remember all the details. At least we confess. Take a look at how amazing it looked!!
Let’s start with the backdrop. Cheap dollar store table cloth taped to the car. We actually thought the entire thing was rainbow and we were a bit surprised when we opened it but honestly, it looks like a door. The Candy Land letters? Free font. We cut them out and glued them to ribbon. To hide the tape, we glued a couple of the candy’s we made. The pink one is actually a plate covered in cellophane. The peppermint is painted styrofoam.
Our playing piece is made of wood. God bless the K-Man for helping us out. Our lolly pops were cut out of foam board and then covered in cellophane. The rock candy is torn up tissue glued with Mod Podge to a dowell rod. We tried to make it look more sugary by spraying it with adhesive and adding sugar to the ends but it turned out to be a big sticky mess. The gum drops, however, weren’t. They’re plastic and we’re spray painted then sprayed with adhesive and topped with Kosher salt.
Gotta give a shout out to my hubby for the Tootsie Rolls too. They’re cut up pool noodles and they looked awesome. Now, we tried to save some space by putting the poles for our sign and candy in cups with rice. It would’ve worked if it wasn’t windy. Totally recommend flower pots because you can cover them with the fake snow.
The best part of the night? My teen had a blast putting this together and was actually feeling well enough to enjoy Trunk or Treat this year. So much fun to see friends. You may not be able to tell because she has her company jacket on, but she was Kim Possible. So cute.
For the “sparkle” effect on the rock candy, you might try the edible glitter that cake decorators use. I’ve seen it in the cake decorating section in several craft stores. 🙂
I love this! It’s so creative & cute!
I LOVE this! Amazing job
This turned out so amazingly cute!
What did you use to make the gum drops? Buckets? Can you tell me what kinds of buckets you used? I am having no luck in trying to find some that are both affordable and the right size. Thanks for sharing!
For the gum drops we used inserts from pots. They just happened to be the correct shape.
