Thanks to my friends at The Divining Rod for sending me wines to review for Mardi Gras. As always, the opinions are my own.
Mardi Gras. Yes, it was a month ago. Unfortunately, I received my wine from Marc Mondavi and the Divining Rod team on Mardi Gras and couldn’t drink two bottles really fast and get a blog post up. A couple of days later, my teenager had that confusional migraine and wound up in the hospital so I didn’t get a chance to drink them that weekend either. It wasn’t until the next week, when my friend Paige brought dinner that we had a chance and by then Mardi Gras had come and gone. And, so had the wine.
We opened the Chardonnay first. It was full of fruit and oak and absolutely delicious. It’s also a great value priced at $14.99. My girl Paige isn’t a white wine lover but she enjoyed this one. We both did (and because I was dealing with my child’s continued health crisis, there are no pictures of us from this girl’s night. I wasn’t pretty).
The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon was a huge hit. It’s filled with flavors of berries and chocolate and as we gave it time to breathe, the wine changed becoming even more layered. Priced at $17.99, it’s perfect for weekend dinner.
Both of these wines are wonderful and they’d be great paired with some food. Thought I’d share a few suggestions of Cajun recipes from some of my blogging friends to give you some ideas! Enjoy!

I’m going to drink two bottles of that wine and try and make some of these. When I try new things I need to be a little tipsy 😉

I’m not sure I could cook after two bottles of wine but you let me know how that works out for you.

There was once an incident with melting M & M’s because there was no icing for a cake. Even though it didn’t work out and ultimately the pot had to be thrown away I still argue that the idea itself was genius. Just poorly executed 😉
