From the day we got married, all I wanted was to have a baby. However, getting pregnant wasn’t easy for me. I have serious asthma and had to be off all my medications while we were trying to conceive and during my pregnancy. The only really safe months from allergies for me are November-February when everything’s frozen in Kansas City so we knew that was our window to try to get pregnant. And because we didn’t have much time each year, we consulted doctors immediately to help us out.
Leading up to the winter, I took my temperature daily to see when I was ovulating and charted it. We wanted to give ourselves the best chance to conceive right away. Since sex was no longer spontaneous, we knew we may need a little help with vaginal dryness. Eighteen years ago, we didn’t have products like Astroglide TTC Trying to Conceive™ but if we did, it would’ve been on my shopping list. It’s adjusted consistency is similar to cervical mucous allowing sperm to move freely. Important when you’re trying to conceive.
The first year, we didn’t get pregnant. When Spring came, I had to go back on my medications and we had to stop trying. While I was disappointed, I knew we’d be able to start again in the fall so I enjoyed wine all summer and read all kinds of books on how to conceive to improve our chances. We’d be able to start again at the first frost.
This time, we were a little more serious. On top of charting, we were leaving nothing to chance. Looking back, I call this the “time to make donuts” time of our lives because we had to schedule sex a few nights in a row. I’d also have to lay in bed propped up on pillows after. We wanted to make sure that the sperm got to their destination.
That’s where Astroglide TTC™ could’ve helped out. The pre-filled applicators are mess-free since you don’t have to fill them yourself. While traditional lubricants may inhibit sperm motility, studies have shown that Astroglide TTC™ is compatible with sperm, oocytes and embryos and allows sperm to move freely. This gives sperm a better chance of survival compared to traditional lubricants. At a retail price of $12.99, it’s also a great value.
For three months, we tried hard to conceive with no luck. Since we only had a couple months of winter left, my OB/GYN was ready to start fertility treatments. We set the appointment for late January and honestly, stopped trying for a month. That’s when something amazing happened.
I was sitting with my best friend at lunch complaining about not feeling well when she turned to me and said, “I think you’re pregnant.” Two pregnancy tests the next morning confirmed that we were. I tried to think back to when we conceived.
On New Year’s 2000, my hubby and I had an extravagant dinner and tickets to a black tie event. While we had stopped trying to get pregnant, our daughter was conceived that night. Proof that I probably just needed to relax to conceive.
If I was trying to get pregnant today, I’d definitely use Astroglide TTC™. Since it’s specially formulated for couples trying to conceive, it’s the best choice. For more information, check out their Facebook page and for locations to purchase, click here.
