Kanye West. He’s in debt. $53 million to be exact.
He’s tweeted about it. Asked Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg for a handout. He needs cash to fund his dreams and he’s the greatest artist of all time. Just ask him, he’ll tell you.
A fan started a GoFundMe page to help him raise funds. If you’re not familiar with GoFundMe, we used it last year to help defray the cost of our health insurance premiums and a trip to the Mayo Clinic after my husband lost his job. That’s what the site is for- generating donations for people who really need a hand-up (not a hand out. That’s a little different) . If you check out the site, it is unfortunately filled with tragedy. People who have cancer and can’t afford treatment. Others who lost their home in a fire. Some are looking for final expenses for a loved one that died suddenly without insurance. It’s a great way to help others in a time of need.
For us, it was a blessing. We were able to pay a couple of months of our insurance premium ($3,200). Donors also paid for our $1,100 hotel stay, our meals and the $4,000 of medical bills that hit us right at the top of the year. While we weren’t able to get answers when we were at Mayo, the money bought us some time and a little piece of mind. It wasn’t just family and friends that donated, we saw the dance community step up to help us out. Our Rosie was able to continue dance for the year.
I’m not a religious person, but I do believe that the purpose of GoFundMe is to bless others. Rosie and I proved that a few months ago when we created a campaign for a family that was losing a child to cancer. We were able to create it, promote it and have all the money go directly to the family. Why am I bringing this up? The guy that created the Kanye West GoFundMe campaign is stating that ” I would like everything to go to Kanye. Since he is such a high-profile public figure, I would prefer to have GoFundMe transfer all funds to his people directly. ” Guess what asshole? They can do that when you set it up. Automatically.
I would like to pull down the Kanye West GoFundMe Page
Why? First, the guy’s a sexist asshole and I’m a Taylor Swift fan. Second, he’s not really needy. He’s a high-profile guy that incurred a lot of debt. Sorry for you but it’s not really a pressing reason to ask for donations. Remember the gal last month that created a page when she lost all her money in the Powerball and created a page? GoFundMe pulled it down because it violated the websites terms. While this might not because he’s “needy,” it’s certainly repulsive.
There are people out there that can’t afford food or medicine or shelter. There some that are sick with no answers and no money to get them or find a cure. There are families losing their homes because they’re disabled. There are good people out there that really need help. Kanye West is not one of them.
I would start a petition on causes.com to ask for it to be pulled down but sadly, no one will listen. So here’s what I ask. Share my post. It’s the only way that we’ll send the message.
