Rosie turned fourteen this Fall. She wanted to have friends over to hang out and of course wanted candy, popcorn and a bunch of junk but she really didn’t want a party theme. I did because I love planning, so I talked her into a photo booth idea which morphed itself into a Polaroid Party (and yes, I know I’m super late getting the pictures up but better late than never).
Remember Polaroid cameras? They were huge when I was a kid and they’re making a comeback. We found an old one in our basement that we gave to Rosie and she loves it. That’s why she thought the photo booth idea was cool.
It’s a good thing the K-man is so handy as he was assigned the job of creating the Polaroid backdrop. He crafted it out of four pieces of poster board and we hung it from the ceiling with fishing wire. We didn’t have a blank wall in our home, so we just covered the window in the office with plastic tablecloths from the dollar store. It was my job to come up with all the fun photo booth stuff. First up? Fake mustaches and lips.
God Bless Pinterest. I was able to find a bunch of templates and save time. We traced them on foam, cut them out and glued them to sticks. So cheap and oh so adorable. I found all kinds of little girl things we had leftover to use as props- boas, sunglasses, tiaras. We were set but first, I had to feed a crew of hungry teens.
We decided on a Taco Bar- that way they could all eat whatever and whenever they liked. We served beef tacos with soft and hard shells, tortilla chips, queso and all the trimmings. The girls loved it- especially the ham in the middle. I also set up a popcorn bar with personalized bowls and toppings.
We also had a candy bar, but unlike last year’s candy- themed spa party, I tried to keep it simple. Cotton Candy, Sour Patch Kids, Sixlets and were a big hit. I also bought huge Pixy Stix on Amazon that I’m going to order again for dance competition season.
The girls ditched me for a while and went to the park, but when they came back they had so much fun in the Polaroid booth (too bad I didn’t think about how tall they all were. I would’ve made the back drop higher)!
The cool thing about this idea is the girls actually disconnected from social media for a while and had a blast. They let me get a couple of shots before they kicked me out to do their own thing. I’d love to get a peek at some of those pics based on the madness you see below.
All in all, the party was a success. This was a great idea- perfect for a teenager and everyone had fun. We’ve saved the back drop to use for another occasion.

We used poster board and just reinforced the bottom with a piece of wood. Made it really lightweight.
