You have a great product. You pitch me and I tell you I’m not interested. You appear to be shocked. Here’s why I won’t buy from you.
First, in full disclosure, I’ve been in sales my entire career. I started in the restaurant business (yes, it’s sales. Why do you think you’re eating a dessert?), then sold suits, advertising, life insurance and now leggings. I’ve also trained sales people in two different industries and here’s what I’m going to tell you. Sales is not about selling. It’s about relationships. They come first. People buy from people that they like and trust. Period. So now you’re wondering why I’m not doing business with you because I know you and like you. It’s not that simple.
Here’s why I won’t buy from you.
No need– Let’s be honest. I can only use one line of skin care and don’t need ten different supplements. There’s a finite amount of business out there. If I don’t need what you’re selling then I’m not going to buy. Simple
No value– Your passionate about the product you sell but in order for me to buy, I have to see the value. And, in order to do so, you have to educate me. If I don’t see how I can lose weight, get healthier or look fabulous, it’s just not going to happen.
No time– I get turned down all the time for LuLaRoe pop-ups because people don’t have time and I get it. There are only so many hours in the day and you’re busy. If I don’t have time for whatever you have, I’m not going to buy.
No money– I’m not going to lie, I’m home with my chronically ill teen so I can take care of her. What part of that screams that I have lots of money? There, I said it.
And the big reason I won’t buy from you?
You never stop trying to sell me something.
Can we just have a conversation that isn’t a business transaction every once in a while? Can you reach out to me on Facebook and see how I am and not send me a canned pitch that you’re sending to 50 other people? Because honestly, whether I need what you sell or see value in it, I’m not going to buy from you. You’ve turned me off.
Anyone else feel this way?
