A couple months ago, we spray tanned Rosie for a dance competition. While she looked great, we had a really hard time getting it off her elbows so we bought some expensive scrub at Ulta for sensitive skin. That got me thinking. Why not make our own Wild Orange Sugar Scrub? It had to be cheaper and better for you, right?
I am a huge fan of essential oils. They’ve made a huge difference with my allergies this season. Usually, I’m miserable by now and have had at least one sinus infection. This year (knock on wood), I’ve stayed healthy. The only difference? I’ve started using lemon, lavender and peppermint on a regular basis.
For my sugar scrub, I thought I’d use Wild Orange. I love the aroma and it’s known to be energizing and revitalizing- just what I need after a busy day. Since it’s a dōTERRA oil, it’s Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade. The safest, most pure, most beneficial essential oil quality you can get. I also decided to use a fractionated coconut oil instead of the cooking oil that most recipes use to keep this recipe as pure as possible. The sugar? While I cook with high quality sugar, I just bought a generic store brand for this.
Sugar is simple to make. Basically, it’s a cup of carrier oil, a third cup of sugar and 20 drops of essential oil. While this scrub is an orange one, I stayed away from coloring it orange to keep it as pure as possible. While orange may be a pretty color, I’m not convinced that I need red food coloring on my skin.
Combine the sugar and carrier oil in a bowl and add the Wild Orange essential oil. Stir until well-blended.Yes, it’s that simple. Store in an air-tight mason jar (I used 4 ounce jelly jars for this). I bought some material and ribbon to dress this one up so I could send one to my mom for her birthday. Can’t wait to hear what she thinks.
The result? It’s awesome. It’s all natural, costs less than the store brands and smells great. Plus, we’re getting all the health benefits of essential oils. Do you use essential oils?

AWESOME recipe! It’s so much better to make it yourself when you have sensitive skin. Then you’re 100% on what’s in it.
