Will and Jada Smith. WTH are you thinking? If you’ve missed the latest, they are under investigation by Child Protective Services. Seems that a photo of their daughter Willow went viral all over social media earlier this month. Before I go any further, I’m going to show you the pic and see what you think. Here goes.
See anything wrong here? Well, I do. And, of course, I’m about to tell you why.
Willow Smith is thirteen. Moises Arias, former star of Hannah Montana, is twenty. According to the press they are “family friends.” I have no problem with that. I am wondering however, why she’s in bed with her head on his leg while his shirt is nowhere to be found. The picture looks a little intimate to me. Call me crazy, I’ve had lots of family friends. Usually, I sit on the couch with them. How about you?
Willow just happens to be the same age as my Rosie. If I happened to see a picture of my teen with a boy seven years older in any kind of potentially compromising position on social media, I would (for lack of a better phrase) EFFING FREAK OUT. I WOULD LOSE IT. Then I would calm down, ask questions and take action from there. But, there would be LOTS of questions and conversation.
First, it’s not appropriate (or even legal) for a thirteen year-old and a twenty-year old to have a sexual relationship (Rosie already knows this because we had a conversation last year about why dating Justin Bieber was out until she was eighteen. That was before he started to take a dive in popularity around here). Now maybe Willow and Moises are just friends (I will attempt to give them the benefit of the doubt even though it’s a stretch), it’s STILL not an appropriate photo. And, if it was taken out of context, no wonder there’s chatter about the pic.
That being said, I can’t help but wonder what the hell Will and Jada Smith are thinking Jada’s response to the photo? “Here’s the deal. There was nothing sexual about that picture or that situation. You guys are projecting your trash onto it. You’re acting like covert pedophiles and that’s not cool.”
Um. I think it’s pretty sexual. And, I’m not a pedophile. I’m a parent with a kid the same age and it’s my job to educate her and protect her so older boys don’t take advantage of her.
So, I applaud the LA Division of Child Protective Services. Go ahead and investigate Will and Jada Smith. Hopefully, you will find out that the picture was completely innocent and everyone’s blown it out of proportion. If not, hopefully their daughter will get some guidance.
What do you think? Let me know on my Facebook thread.
