I love Pinterest! What started as a small chicken recipe obsession for me has turned into an incredible way for me to promote my blog and those of others. Yeah, sometimes it’s a time waster, but it’s a glorious one. So, I was thrilled when I logged on this morning to find out that you can now send Pinterest messages (which is totally ironic because I was asked if Pinterest had this kind of capability last week when I spoke at an event). So where do you find this glorious new feature? Look up at the top right of your Pinterest account. It’s right there with your notifications.
It’s so easy to use. Click on messages. Select the pinner that you want to message. Type it. Drag a pin into it and you’re all set. Sure beats the just “send pin” feature. For my first message, I picked my friend Ange from Hairspray and HighHeels because she’s a whiz at Pinterest (if you don’t follow her, you should and you can right here.) Since she’s a beauty blogger, I send her an awesome nail design. Hope she loves it!
So, what does this mean for social media? If you’re the average pinner, you probably pin a ton of things that you love-from recipes to craft and quotes. Now, you can send a pin with an explanation so your friends are in on the joke. If you use Pinterest to curate content, you probably have a ton of blogs and articles pinned in your industry. Messaging gives you the opportunity to reach out to a potential prospect or referral partner and share right from the platform. So simple.
But the really big deal? Pinterest messaging allows you to communicate directly without having your message get lost on the bottom of a pin. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve missed something because I have 100 notifications and no time to scroll through. Now, I don’t have to so I’m off to pin.
What do you think of the new feature?
